Like the original model, the large screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note II exemplifies a new breed of hybrid devices, incorporating a 5.5 inch screen that’s only slightly smaller than a 7 inch tablet. This makes the device making capable of comfortably running some applications originally targeted for tablet users. Each major carrier is releasing a version of the Galaxy Note II at varying points this fall. Chitika Insights looked to quantify how well the Samsung Galaxy Note II is being adopted with its large screen size and staggered releases.
Tablet Market Share Report: Nexus 7 Usage Increases 135% since July
Over the past year, the tablet market has seen major changes. The third-generation iPad was announced in March 2012, and Apple has since gone on to unveil both a fourth-generation iPad and a seven-inch iPad Mini. Microsoft even announced its own upcoming entrance into the tablet ecosystem with the Microsoft Surface. As the state of the tablet market continues to evolve, Chitika Insights conducted a research study to determine which tablet devices are seeing the most success in terms of usage from their user base.
iOS 6 Adoption Levels Out, Surpasses 60% One Month After Launch
After its release on September 19th, 2012, iOS 6 notably achieved a 15% share of all iOS traffic in its first 24 hours, and saw an adoption rate of over 50% after only 2 weeks. Chitika Insights decided to see how the new OS’ adoption has evolved a full month out from its debut.
Firefox 16 Security Flaw: Quick Response by Mozilla Minimizes Impact on Adoption
Mozilla released its newest version of the Firefox Web browser last Tuesday, October 9th, 2012. Unfortunately, this version had a major security issue, which prompted Mozilla to remove the download from its page just a day after initially releasing it. The software was patched and re-released less than 24 hours later as Version 16.0.1. At Chitika Insights, we were interested in seeing what percentage of Firefox users had updated to version 16 before the fix, and how the issue may have affected adoption rates.
iPhone 5 Usage Surpasses Samsung Galaxy S III After Less than 3 Weeks on Market
Following the release of Apple’s iPhone 5 on September 21st, Chitika Insights was interested in comparing the Web usage rates of the newest phones from both manufacturers. Looking solely at impressions coming from the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, we were able to observe the difference in Web traffic volume between the two devices, depicted in the figure below:
Local Searches Constitute 24% of Google Queries
Local businesses have always needed their advertisements to effectively target potential customers in their area. When it comes to advertising on the Web, this task is made more difficult with ads potentially reaching almost anyone in the world. One method for targeting messages to local customers is through a search engine, with the top three being Bing, Google and Yahoo! The new Amazon Kindle Fire HD was released Friday, September 14th, 2012, almost 1 year after the release of the Kindle Fire, and two months after the release of Google’s Nexus 7. The Kindle Fire HD‘s price point of $199 is the same as the initial price of the original Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7. If successful, this could reenergize the Kindle Fire line.
