iPhone Users Browse Web 150% More than iPod Touch Users
The iPod Touch is built with near-identical hardware and shares the same operating system (iOS) with the iPhone but without an antenna that can connect with cellular networks. This makes the iPod Touch slightly thinner than the iPhone, while still being a very capable device for browsing the Web. Due to the similarities of these two devices, Chitika Insights conducted a study to compare the Web usage rates between them.
Chrome for iOS Market Share Nears 3%; Safari still Dominant
Since our first report on the new Google Chrome browser for iOS, usage rates of the mobile browser have continued to grow. Based on data from our Chrome for iOS Adoption Tracker, Google Chrome now accounts for 2.7%* of Web traffic on iOS, up from 1.5% on July 17.

Google Usage Rates Vary Across Browsers
The now ubiquitous phrase “Google it” certainly points to a clear king of the search engine marketplace, but many prefer to do their “Googling” in a variety of browsers to take advantage of certain plugins, privacy features, and other attributes. Chitika Insights examined the progress of the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble nook in the tablet marketplace for its latest study.
RIM Web Usage Down 25% in the Past Year
A recent report from IDC pegged RIM’s quarterly market share at 4.8% based on sales – the company’s lowest mark in this area since 2009. Meanwhile, Apple’s iOS shipped 16.9% of all phones worldwide. The Chitika Insights team was interested in seeing how these global figures translate to overall Web usage in North America by analyzing the past year of mobile usage statistics.
Supply & Demand Issues Stall Google Nexus 7 Growth
Although Nexus 7 experienced a huge initial surge in both sales and Web traffic, users don’t seem to be surfing as much as one might expect them to. However, a reason for this drop could be Google only recently ended their Nexus 7 hold last week. As such, these numbers are most likely from users who got the Nexus 7 in the first round of shipments. As the novelty of a new tablet wears off, so does the user’s desire to surf the Web as extensively as they had initially.
Samsung Galaxy S III Usage Growing Significantly Since its Release
Due to the resounding success of the Samsung Galaxy S III in the market so far, Chitika Insights conducted a study to determine how the device was performing relative to other Samsung Android phones currently in the marketplace.
